Back to School Insurance Checklist for Parents

You've bought new backpacks, supplies, and lunch boxes. And you’ve sent your kids back to school—to start a new year, meet their new teacher, and make new friends.

Now it’s your turn. You might not be heading back to the classroom, but back to school time is the perfect occasion to check lists, buy new, and start over. Let’s start with your insurance back-to-school checklist to make sure your coverage is up to date and that you have proper protection for you and your family.

Homeowners Insurance

Have you completed any home improvement or remodeling projects?
Have you added a home office?
Did you purchase fine art, jewelry or other high-end valuables that may require additional coverage through a rider or endorsement?
Have you added any security systems that could qualify you for a policy discount?
Do you have a safely stored list of the possessions within your home that you would need to replace if lost or stolen?

Automobile Insurance

Did you purchase a new vehicle?
Did you add a driver to your policy?
Did you send a student driver off to college?
Do you use a personal vehicle for business?
Are you paying the right amount of coverage for your older vehicles?

Home Business

Are you working remotely from a home office?
Do you operate a business from your home?
Do you have part-time or full-time employees?
Are you using a personal vehicle for your business?

Personal Umbrella Policy

Do you have frequent guests to your property, or do you have clients or customers coming to your home-based business?
If so, are you protected from injury claims and personal lawsuits?
Do you have adequate coverage for excess claims against you?
