Want to Promote the Health of Your Employees?

If you’re a business owner or manage a team, you know it’s not enough to expect your employees to clock-in on time and turn in projects. If you want a happy, healthy team, low health insurance costs, and a good workplace environment that serves your customers well, you also need to support the well-being of your employees.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of apps for monitoring and growing our health practices. So as to not overwhelm yourself or your team, we recommend selecting a few and sharing them around as a way to garner interest and team bonding.

Suggest trying one or two together and reporting back each week to see what everyone thinks. Or, if your team is interested, use some of the more competitive ones to garner enthusiasm and a little bit of friendly competition around the office.

  • Sworkit — Only have five minutes for a workout? Or are you looking for a 50-minute exercise routine? Sworkit is an app that can customize a routine for you, depending on what areas of your body you’d like to work out and how long you have. For office teams, you could take a five minute break together and do a quick muscle-building workout. Want to do something with the kids, too? The app has special workouts designed to keep their interest.

  • Headspace — If you or your employees don’t think meditation is for you, perhaps Headspace will help you reconsider. These friendly, short, guided meditation sessions help walk beginners through the basics of meditating. In a world that can be endlessly busy and stressful, taking a few minutes each day to settle down and be present can be helpful for focusing and managing priorities. This practice is also easy to incorporate at the office. Calling for five minutes of meditation before a meeting or after a long day shows you care for your employees’ holistic health.

  • AllTrails — AllTrails might be the best app for the pandemic. Geared to get us outside and exploring nature, the app connects residents with parks, trails, and hikes near and far. Employees can even plan and take hikes together, a unique and healthy team bonding exercise that is sure to spark conversation in the real or virtual breakrooms Monday morning.

  • BBC Good Food — To inspire fun and healthy eating, the BBC’s Good Food app offers more than 13,000 recipes. With beautiful pictures and step-by-step recipes, this app can help employees creatively think through meal planning and creation. Creating a virtual team meal together over video chat is a tasty way to do some post-work team bonding!

  • Step-counters — Most smartphones have step counting features built into the system, so there’s no need to have to download an app for that (though if you want, there are dozens out there!). Office step-counting competitions have been known to spark some convivial rivalry and help everyone reach the recommended 10,000 steps a day.
